Ginger is generally used in combination with plantain. Psyllium plus ginger works as expectorant and cough suppressant, and can be used for cough and edema.
Psyllium is cold in nature and has the effects of clearing heat, diuretic and drenching (to improve the problem of dribbling in urine, and the problem of small amount of urine not being able to pass), expelling phlegm, cooling the blood and detoxicating, and is used for heat drenching (burning and stinging pain during urination, accompanied by frequent urination and urgent urination, and discomfort in pulling the abdomen), astringent pain, edema with small amount of urine, summer-dampness and diarrhea, phlegm-heat coughing and vomiting of blood with epistaxis. This product is forbidden to those who are deficient in slippery menstrual qi.
Ginger is warm in nature and has the effects of relieving exterior cold (removing cold from the muscle surface), warming the stomach and stopping vomiting (treating vomiting caused by stomach cold by warming the spleen and stomach), resolving phlegm and relieving cough, and detoxifying fish and crab poison. It is used in treating wind-cold cold, vomiting of stomach cold, coughing with cold phlegm and fish and crab poison. It is not recommended to be taken by those with heatiness and yin deficiency.
The above two herbs, when used together, have the effects of expelling phlegm and relieving cough, and can be used to treat or improve cough, edema and urination, vomiting and epistaxis. It should be noted that one should not blindly mix and match herbs on one’s own, and it is recommended to use herbs singly or in combination under the guidance of a doctor to prevent mistakes.
