Carotid exenteration for the treatment of cerebral palsy

Carotid exenteration is useful in the treatment of cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy is a syndrome caused by non-progressive brain injury and developmental defects occurring in the fetal or neonatal period. It is mainly characterized by movement disorders and postural abnormalities, and some patients may be accompanied by epilepsy, mental retardation, behavioral abnormalities, and perceptual disorders.
Carotid exenteration, also known as carotid exenteration sympathetic neural net resection, is used to treat the disease by surgically removing the sympathetic neural net around the carotid arteries. It has been found that this procedure has a significant improvement on hand and foot movement, dysphagia, and drooling in patients with cerebral palsy. It is now widely used in the treatment of cerebral palsy patients with flaccid and bradykinesia.
Patients with cerebral palsy are advised to seek timely medical treatment and choose the appropriate treatment under the professional guidance of doctors.
