How long sciatica usually lasts in young people

The duration of sciatica in young people is related to the cause of the disease and should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. Sciatica is commonly associated with pear-shaped muscle syndrome or lumbar disc herniation. The pear-shaped muscle syndrome is usually treated conservatively, mainly with oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, which can be combined with acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, generally after regular treatment, most 1-2 weeks can be cured. If sciatica is caused by lumbar disc herniation, most of them are also treated conservatively with oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, which may take 2-3 weeks to heal after treatment, and the specific condition needs to be decided according to imaging examinations such as CT or MRI of the lumbar spine. Some patients with severe symptoms need to consider surgery, and the healing time may be extended to more than three months. In conclusion, patients with sciatica should pay attention to bed rest and it is recommended to sleep on a hard bed. Pain relief treatment can be given under the guidance of a doctor when the pain is severe, and physical therapy is not recommended until the cause is known.
