Causes of low platelets



Low platelets may be secondary to certain diseases such as hematologic diseases and autoimmune diseases.

1. Secondary low platelets: Low platelets may occur with acute infections, or with the use of certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as diclofenac sodium extended-release tablets and acetaminophen. After removing the cause or stopping the medication, platelets usually return to normal gradually.

2. Blood system diseases: such as aplastic anemia, acute leukemia, immune thrombocytopenia, thrombotic thrombocytopenia, lymphoma, etc., may appear low platelets, and then should improve the relevant examination, clear diagnosis and treatment.

3. Autoimmune system diseases: For example, patients with systemic lupus erythematosus will produce anti-platelet antibody and anti-phospholipid antibody, and perfect bone marrow aspiration + biopsy can see the maturation of megakaryocytes, resulting in a decrease in platelet count. These patients can be treated with glucocorticoids or immunosuppressants.
