What does hepatitis B antigen mean?

Hepatitis B antigen refers to hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis B e antigen. Hepatitis B core antigen is mainly in the liver cells and is generally found in relatively small amounts in the peripheral blood, so it is not included in the hepatitis B two-for-one or hepatitis B five quantitative tests. Whether it is hepatitis B surface antigen or hepatitis B e antigen, a positive test is not a good indication. A positive hepatitis B surface antigen indicates hepatitis B virus carriage, and the high or low number of hepatitis B surface antigen can indirectly reflect the active degree of hepatitis B virus replication. The same goes for hepatitis B e antigen. A positive hepatitis B e antigen indicates that the hepatitis B virus is in a state of high replication. Whether hepatitis B surface antigen or hepatitis B e antigen is positive, hepatitis B DNA, liver function, and abdominal ultrasound are required to assess the specific condition of the liver.
