Is surgery for purulent otitis media a major operation?

Surgery for suppurative otitis media is major surgery.
Surgeries for purulent otitis media can be categorized into 2 types according to their purpose:
1. surgeries aimed at cleaning up the middle ear lesions, i.e. simple mastoidectomy, mastoidectomy.
2. Surgery to rebuild the middle ear sound transmitting structures to improve hearing, i.e. tympanoplasty, auditory ossicular chain reconstruction.
Among them, mastoidectomy, radical mastoidectomy and tympanoplasty are grade 3 surgeries, which are complicated and difficult to perform. Auditory chain reconstruction is a level 4 surgery, which is more complicated and technically difficult.
When surgery for suppurative otitis media is required, it should be performed by experienced specialists to minimize intraoperative and postoperative complications.
