How do you get a splinter out of your hand?

If the splinter is shallow and more of the end is outside the skin, you can disinfect the area with povidone-iodine and then use tweezers to remove the splinter by itself along the longitudinal axis of the splinter. If the splinter is shallow and only a small portion of the end is outside the skin and cannot be held with tweezers, try applying transparent adhesive to the affected area and then quickly removing the adhesive along the longitudinal axis of the splinter, which may bring out the splinter. If the adhesive tape fails to remove the splinter, or if the end of the splinter is not in the skin, then you need to go to the hospital and have a doctor make a surgical incision to remove the splinter. Note that after removing the splinter, the wound should be disinfected promptly, and tetanus antitoxin should be injected to prevent tetanus, and antibiotics such as amoxicillin and cefadroxil should be taken to prevent infection if necessary.
