Joint ultrasound does not confirm the diagnosis of gout, joint ultrasound can provide an important reference for the diagnosis of gout.
Gout is a joint disease caused by monosodium urate deposition, the gold standard for the diagnosis of this disease is arthrocentesis, but arthrocentesis is an invasive examination, in the absence of the results of arthrocentesis, the diagnosis of gout needs to be combined with the patient’s medical history, clinical manifestations, laboratory tests and imaging tests including joint ultrasound for comprehensive analysis and diagnosis.
Joint ultrasound can be used to evaluate cartilage and soft tissue urate deposition and observe bone erosion and synovial inflammation, in addition to dynamic judgment of the amount of joint fluid and the distance from the body surface and used to guide the joint puncture. But joint ultrasound alone can not be diagnosed gout.
