Is betel nut harmful?

Eating betel nut is harmful to the human body. Regular chewing of betel nut can cause mouth ulcers, gum recession, submucosal fibrosis, and several studies have shown that betel nut has a strong correlation with oral cancer.
Betel nut is an evergreen tree that grows in the tropics and its fruit belongs to the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) list of carcinogens as a group 1 carcinogen.
Eating betel nut may cause tooth discoloration, blackening, pigmentation; long-term chewing will increase the weight of the temporomandibular joints, causing joint popping, pain and other symptoms; betel nut eaten too much, but also may cause damage to the mucous membrane, ulcers, and even the occurrence of oral cancer, tongue cancer and these oral malignant tumors.
