A high red blood cell count with a low mean red blood cell volume may be a sign of iron deficiency anemia or erythrocytosis.
In iron deficiency anemia, the body will lack iron, and the synthesis of red blood cells will be affected, often producing a large number of small red blood cells in the bone marrow, and the number of red blood cells may be slightly high, and there will be high red blood cells and low average red blood cell volume in routine blood tests.
When erythrocytosis occurs, the bone marrow tissue may have lesions, resulting in abnormal bone marrow hematopoiesis, which may produce a large number of red blood cells, resulting in a higher than normal number of red blood cells, but the synthetic red blood cells and normal red blood cells will have obvious differences and similarities, and the average volume of red blood cells is often low.
If the red blood cell count is high but the average red blood cell volume is low, it is best to go to the hematology department in time to receive regular examination and treatment.
