Can you survive Parkinson’s disease in the long term?

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disease of the nervous system that is generally not fatal. This is a chronic disease, and with reasonable and standardized treatment in the early stages, patients can have a longer survival period, and some patients will preserve better motor function even after ten years with better medication. Parkinson’s patients eventually die because of complications, especially without better, regular and standardized treatment, motor function declines faster, and misaspiration due to impaired swallowing and coughing reflexes can occur, leading to aspiration pneumonia or even asphyxiation. Parkinson’s patients have stiff limbs, unstable posture, poor balance, and are prone to falls, which can also be fatal if they accidentally fall and cause an accident. Apart from this, Parkinson’s patients’ life expectancy can be prolonged as long as the patients can systematically, regularly and reasonably apply medications and rehabilitation exercises.
