What is urinary incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is an intermittent or persistent involuntary transurethral leakage caused by various reasons. Its population prevalence is about 2-10%. Because of the lack of awareness and fear of shame, many people suffering from incontinence are still reluctant to see a doctor. Therefore, the prevalence rate of 10% may still be on the low side. In elderly people in nursing homes, it can even be as high as 25%, while only 0.7% of the consultation rate. The inability of the bladder urethra to maintain its function of controlling urination and the involuntary flow of urine is called urinary incontinence. Urinary incontinence is divided into four categories according to the cause: 1, urge incontinence: there is a strong desire to urinate, and can not be controlled by the will and urine out of the urethra. 2, overflow incontinence: excessive expansion of the bladder, the internal pressure rises above the urethral pressure, urine involuntary outflow. 3, pressure incontinence: involuntary urine outflow when the abdominal pressure increases is called pressure incontinence, such as coughing, laughing, sneezing, lifting heavy objects, suddenly increasing intra-abdominal pressure, resulting in involuntary overflow of urine, mostly seen in menstruating women, postmenopausal women. 4, true urinary incontinence: damage to the urethral sphincter muscle, urine from the urethra continuous outflow. In the diagnosis should first determine whether it is urinary incontinence, and then clarify the clinical type and etiology according to the medical history, physical examination and relevant laboratory tests. The history should pay attention to the presence of bladder irritation symptoms, history of urinary stone discharge, history of pelvic surgery, pregnancy, etc. A comprehensive examination of the pelvic organs, genitourinary system and nervous system should be performed. If necessary, urography, ultrasound pelvic organ examination, cystoscopy and urodynamic examination should be performed.
