Alzheimer’s disease, the identification of the disease belongs to the Chinese medicine geriatric dementia, as early as the pre-Qin period, that is, there are similar records. For example, “Zuo Zhuan” said: “not wise, the world is called idiots.” Yang Jizhou “acupuncture and moxibustion” named after “demented”, “Jing Yue Quan Shu” called “demented”, Ye Tian Shi “clinical guide to medical cases” said “demented”, and so on. All of them are characterized by decreased intelligence, stupidity, inability to handle daily affairs independently, and even inability to resist external hazards. Medical doctors have recognized from different perspectives that the etiology of senile dementia is the gradual decline of the internal organs, loss of marrow, lack of qi and blood, internal growth of phlegm and blood stasis blocking the orifices. In the early stage of senile dementia, patients show indifferent expressions, isolation and reticence, and forgetfulness begins to appear. In this period, one group of patients is mainly suffering from liver depression, and the signs of liver and kidney essence deficiency are gradually revealed, while another group of patients starts to show the signs of deficiency of both spleen and kidney. The prognosis is still good if the patient is treated urgently at this stage; in the middle stage, the patient’s forgetfulness is further aggravated and even dumb and stupid. In the former group of patients, Yin deficiency becomes more serious, resulting in hyperactivity of Liver-Yang, delirium and agitation. In the latter group of patients, the deficiency of spleen and kidney is aggravated, and pathological products such as phlegm and stasis are generated in the body, obscuring the clear orifices, resulting in symptoms such as inability to take care of oneself completely, blindness, loss of use and recognition. At this stage, if treated reasonably, the progression of the disease can be slowed down; at the later stage, the patient shows dullness of consciousness, irregularity of the bowels and drowsiness. In the later stage, the patient shows dullness of consciousness, loss of bowel movements, and drowsiness. The pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease is based on deficiency of the spleen and kidney and deficiency of liver and kidney yin. This may be due to the different physical factors of each individual, while Yang deficiency and essence deficiency are more common in the elderly. Spleen and kidney deficiency is the root cause of the occurrence and development of senile dementia, while phlegm accumulation and blood stasis obstruction are the basic pathological aspects of the dementia process. Therefore, tonifying the kidney and benefiting the marrow, calming the mind and opening the orifices, strengthening the spleen and benefiting the qi, resolving phlegm and removing blood stasis are the basic treatment for this disease.
