How long does asphyxiation take to damage the brain?

It is related to the physical quality and the cause of asphyxia. Asphyxia is actually a lack of oxygen to the brain. Generally, if the airway is completely blocked, the heart will stop in 1 minute, and a lack of oxygen to the brain for more than 3 minutes will cause irreversible brain cell necrosis until death, and the resuscitated patient will most likely be in a vegetative state. At any stage of the asphyxiation process, death can occur suddenly due to cardiac arrest.
