How is sleep apnea treated?

Sleep apnoea is usually referred to as sleep apnoea hypoventilation syndrome in medical terms. Treatment options include surgical and non-surgical treatments. Mild cases can be improved by changing the lying position, stopping smoking and drinking, and losing weight. For more severe cases a sleep ventilator can be brought in and, if necessary, nasopharyngeal and oral surgery can be performed to eliminate mechanical narrowing of the airway.
