What does office hypertension mean

In-office hypertension refers to the fact that when some patients measure their blood pressure in the hospital, they are nervous because of the doctor, which leads to the measured blood pressure exceeding the normal range, but their blood pressure is within the normal range when they measure it at home or perform 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. In response to the phenomenon of “office hypertension”, some international hypertension academic organizations and experts and scholars advocate patients to measure their own blood pressure at home. Self-measurement of blood pressure at home is more representative of real blood pressure than occasional outpatient measurements, as patients are generally more calm when measuring their blood pressure at home. Self-measurement of blood pressure is generally recommended to be done with a fully automatic or semi-automatic sphygmomanometer that meets international standards. Patients should avoid smoking, drinking coffee or exercising for 30 minutes before measuring blood pressure, and remain seated and relaxed for 3-5 minutes. When measuring blood pressure, the room should be at a comfortable temperature, the patient’s arm should be placed on the table naked and at the same level as the heart, and during the measurement of blood pressure, the person taking the measurement should try to keep quiet and avoid talking with others. Each blood pressure measurement should be averaged 3 times at 1-minute intervals. If there is a “clinic hypertension” phenomenon of patients, it is recommended that after the home standardized self-testing, with blood pressure data to the doctor, do not be negative to avoid delays in the condition of the doctor.
