How Osteosarcoma in Children is Treated

The main treatments for osteosarcoma in children include medication, surgery, and other treatments. Surgery is the main treatment.
1. Drug treatment. Commonly used drugs include methotrexate, calcium folinate and so on. They are mainly used for adjuvant chemotherapy before surgery, and also used for continuing chemotherapy after surgery.
2. Surgical treatment. Radical resection of tumor segment is suitable for early stage osteosarcoma without metastasis. Limb-sparing surgery with implantation of prosthesis is performed after complete resection of the tumor segment. Amputation, for osteosarcoma with extensive localized infiltration and metastasis.
3. Other treatments. Radiotherapy can reduce the size of the lesion. Intravenous infusion of lymphocytes or interferon can play a role in suppressing tumor cells.
Children diagnosed with osteosarcoma should be treated under the guidance of doctors as soon as possible, and the medication should be in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
