What are the chances of an 8mm solid lung nodule being benign?

Solid lung nodules of 8mm have a relatively high chance of being benign, but it is not possible to determine their nature from their size alone. Generally speaking, 8mm lung nodules belong to benign nodules more often, but according to the size of the nodule can not be completely determined its benign or malignant, need to cooperate with auxiliary examination to give a clear diagnosis. Clinically, it is usually necessary to determine the nature of the nodule by combining the nodule diameter and size, location, density, and enhancement. Most of the benign lung nodules are small in diameter, if the diameter is less than 8mm, chest CT suggests that the morphology is more regular, the surrounding boundary is clearer, the growth rate is slower, the internal texture is more uniform, and there is no glass-like component around most of the nodules are benign. On the other hand, malignant lung nodules with relatively large diameters, especially with diameters larger than 2cm and faster growth, should be highly alert to the possibility of malignancy. Chest CT suggests that malignant lung nodules are relatively easy to appear lobulation, burr or have ground glass-like components, pleural traction and other related signs. Therefore, when 8mm solid lung nodules appear, it is recommended to consult the doctor in time, and after imaging and puncture biopsy to clarify its benign or malignant nature, targeted treatment will be carried out to avoid delayed treatment, resulting in aggravation of the condition.
