The location of the pterygoid sinus can be found by nasal endoscopy, CT or MRI.
The pterygoid sinuses are part of the posterior group of sinuses, which are more hidden and generally not easy to find, and are primarily sought out through nasal endoscopy, CT or MRI. The pterygoid sinus is located at the base of the pterygoid saddle and opens into the pterygoid sieve crypt of the upper nasal tract.
Nasal endoscopy can be used to locate the pterygoid sinus through the upper nasal passage backward, or through the posterior nostril up the nasal septum. CT or MRI can be used to locate the pterygoid sinus in the center of the skull in different layers, such as horizontal, sagittal, and coronal, and the pterygoid sinus can be found inside the nasal cavity.
The more common diseases of the pterygoid sinus include infections, polyps, cysts, and other diseases, most of which require minimally invasive nasal endoscopic surgery to treat.
Pterygoid sinus and pterygoid sinus diseases need to consult an ENT department to clarify the cause of the disease and then follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
