The effects of risperidone tablets in children may include insomnia, drowsiness, headache, abnormal appetite, and hyperprolactinemia. Risperidone is an antipsychotic of the monoaminergic antagonist class and is used to treat schizophrenia, acute manic or mixed episodes of bipolar disorder type 1, and irritability associated with autism in children and adolescents. Possible adverse effects of risperidone in children include psychiatric symptoms such as insomnia, agitation, and depression, neurologic symptoms such as somnolence, headache, and dystonia, and weight gain, increased or decreased appetite, hyperprolactinemia, respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections. The drug should be used in accordance with the doctor’s instructions, avoid self-administration to avoid adverse effects. Risperidone is contraindicated in people with a history of hypersensitivity to this drug. If abnormal behavior or uncomfortable symptoms are observed in children during the use of the drug, they should promptly go to the hospital.
