What harm can roundworms do to people

Ascaris lumbricoides is a common causative agent of intestinal parasitic disease in humans. The disease is mostly seen in children, and when it is parasitized in the intestine, it absorbs nutrients from the body, leading to malnutrition and initial abdominal distention, indigestion, and intermittent abdominal pain. At night, adult worms will crawl out of the intestine and anus, and patients will experience itching in the anal region. As the worms grow more and more, they will form a mass in the abdominal intestine, leading to intestinal obstruction and abdominal cramps. If the adult worms enter the appendix, they will show symptoms similar to appendicitis and may also cause appendiceal perforation. If the adult worms enter the bile duct along the duodenal papilla, biliary colic will occur and obstructive jaundice will be caused. If the adult worms enter the pancreatic duct, it can cause pancreatitis. If the adult worms enter the lungs, they can cause cough, asthma, and blood in the sputum.
