Hypothyroidism, or hypothyroidism for short, is a relatively common condition.
Some patients may require moderate iodine supplementation under the guidance of a medical professional, and may consume seafood such as kelp. However, it is important to note that not all patients need iodine supplementation. For example, iodine supplementation is not recommended for patients with hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and sometimes even iodine control is required.
In addition, patients with hypothyroidism can increase their intake of high-quality protein, such as fish, eggs and dairy; they can consume fresh vegetables and fruits high in dietary fibre, such as leeks, portobello mushrooms and hawthorn, to promote gastrointestinal motility; they can also take appropriate supplements of foods rich in iron (e.g. red beans), vitamin B12 (e.g. animal liver) and folic acid (e.g. black sesame and peas).
