Family members must first learn to understand and be more patient, avoiding the use of violent language or behaviour to stop the patient’s obsessive-compulsive symptoms and instead using a gentle approach to communication to help ease the discomfort caused by the illness. Secondly, it is important to soothe the patient’s uneasy emotions and make him or her feel the warmth of family. For OCD itself, try to avoid events that trigger compulsions and use listening to music, walking, yoga and hot baths to relieve stress and anxiety.
