Colposcopy takes about 20 minutes to perform. The usual colposcopy procedure involves the doctor placing a speculum into the patient’s vagina and magnifying the surface of the cervix through the colposcope to further observe the surface of the cervix for the presence of bulky growths, abnormal blood vessels, etc. And an acetic acid white test is performed to observe the cells on the surface of the cervix for abnormal acetic acid white. After the white acetate test, an iodine test is also performed to observe if there are any areas that are not colored by the iodine test. These are the main procedures, and they take about 20 minutes. Colposcopy can be used to initially determine the presence of precancerous lesions and cervical cancer, and can also guide a colposcopic biopsy to further clarify the diagnosis.
