The thoracic vertebrae are located in the back and are connected to the cervical vertebrae on the middle and upper side of the spine and to the lumbar vertebrae on the lower side. The thoracic vertebrae are also part of the bony scaffolding of the thorax, and together with the ribs and the anterior sternum, they form the bony scaffolding of the thorax. There are 12 thoracic vertebrae, and the thoracic spinal canal exists on the posterior side of the thoracic vertebrae, and the thoracic spinal cord exists in the thoracic spinal canal. The thoracic spine is the main pillar structure of the posterior back, so trauma can lead to instability of the thoracic spine and cause hunchback.
