Astragalus tea is mainly used to replenish qi and promote yang (replenish qi to promote yang qi), diuretic and edema (promote urination and eliminate edema), and to promote blood circulation (replenish the body’s water and blood), and so on. Astragalus is one of the most common Chinese medicinal herbs. It is sweet in taste, slightly cold in nature, and belongs to the spleen and lung meridians; it has the effects of tonifying qi and elevating yang (replenishing qi so that yang qi can be elevated), fixing the surface and stopping sweating (stopping sweating by reinforcing the surface of the muscle), inducing diuresis to eliminate edema, generating fluids and nourishing the blood, moving stagnation and promoting paralysis, supporting toxins to drain pus, and restricting the sores to regenerate the muscles (helping to heal the sores more quickly, and promoting the growth of new flesh). Astragalus is especially suitable for those with deficiency of spleen and qi, as well as for those with deficiency of surface sweating (frequent natural sweating due to weakness of the muscle surface); it is mainly used for treating symptoms of qi deficiency, deficiency of the surface and night sweating (abnormal sweating after falling asleep, but sweating stops after waking up), deficiency of qi and oedema, or internal heat and thirst (internal fever accompanied by symptoms of overeating, excessive drinking, excessive urination, and so forth), and so forth. Note that this drug should not be taken by those who are suffering from superficial solidity, stagnation of food accumulation (food is indigested and stagnated in the stomach), liver depression and stagnation of qi (poor transport of qi and blood in the liver, emotional depression), carbuncle and gangrene (a kind of venomous sores, which is an acute suppurative disease that occurs on the surface of the body, the limbs, and the internal organs) with the first appearance of the sores or heat and toxicity that still prevails after ulceration, or yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity (deficiency of yin and fluid, and hyperactivity of yang qi); the adverse effects are not known for the time being. It is recommended to take this medicine under the guidance of a professional Chinese medicine practitioner, and should not be purchased on its own in order to avoid delays.
