Preferred treatment for intussusception

The preferred treatment for intussusception in children is an air-enema repositioning, which is mostly curative, whereas in adults it is usually cured by partial resection of the bowel, or even radical surgery for bowel cancer. Intussusception, as the name suggests, is the insertion of one section of bowel into another, and is more common in children. It usually occurs when the terminal ileum is inserted into the ascending colon. In children, ischemic necrosis of the bowel rarely occurs, and it can be cured by air-enema restoration. In adults, intussusception usually occurs because of intestinal tumors, such as lymphoma, mesenchymal tumors, or even malignant tumors or intestinal cancers, which usually require resection of the intestinal tract or even radical resection of intestinal cancers in order to obtain a cure.
