What is the cause of urinary and fecal incontinence according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Chinese medicine believes that incontinence is due to a deficiency of spleen qi or a deficiency of the kidneys. 1. Deficiency of spleen qi: Spleen is the source of qi and blood biochemistry; if spleen qi is sufficient, qi and blood will be abundant. If the physiological function of the spleen is not normal, then there is no way for qi and blood to be generated. Spleen qi is the main source of qi and blood production, and if spleen qi is deficient, then qi and blood will be abundant. Clinical manifestations include abdominal pain, tiredness (fatigue), loose stools (scanty and unformed feces), dullness (lack of appetite, reduced food intake), pale tongue, white fur, and slow pulse. It can be treated by adding and subtracting Gui Spleen Tang. 2. Kidney deficiency: Kidney has the physiological function of regulating the metabolism of water and liquid in the body. If the kidney is deficient, the water metabolism in the body will be disturbed, resulting in urinary and fecal incontinence. Clinical manifestations include lumbar and knee soreness and weakness, dizziness, tinnitus, pale tongue, white moss, thin and slow pulse, and so on. It can be treated with Jin Gui Ren Qi Wan (金匮肾气丸) plus subtractions. If urinary and fecal incontinence occurs, please consult a doctor promptly and take medication under the doctor’s guidance, otherwise the condition will be delayed.
