The average height of a five-week-old boy is about 110 centimeters and the average weight is about 18 kilograms, with great individual variation.
A child who weighs more than 20% of the average is overweight, or even obese. If the weight is less than 20% of the average weight, the child is underweight and probably malnourished.
If the height is less than 20% of the average height, it is short stature, and if it is less than 30% or more, it is growth retardation, also known as dwarfism. If the height is more than 20% of the standard height, the child is of high stature.
If your child’s height or weight is significantly lower than the average, it is recommended that you consult a pediatric endocrinologist or growth and development specialist to rule out the disease and treat the symptoms.
