Yuan Zhi is bitter, pungent and warm in nature, and belongs to the heart, kidney and lung meridians. It has the efficacy of tranquilizing the mind and benefiting the intellect, communicating with the heart and kidneys (the fire of the heart descends and the water of the kidneys rises to control each other), dispelling phlegm, and subduing swellings, and is used for insomnia and excessive sleep, forgetfulness and palpitations, trance, coughing and phlegm, sores and poisons, and swelling and pain in the breasts due to the failure of communication between the heart and the kidneys (the heart has a high fire, the kidneys are deficient in yin, and the physiological function of the heart and the kidneys is in disorder). The adverse effects and contraindications of the drug are not known. There is no relevant evidence to suggest that Yuan Zhi can be used to treat detoxification of raw epiphyllum. When using epiphyllum, it can be decocted first to reduce the toxicity. It should also not be used in conjunction with hemixia, guayule, guayule seed, guayule bark, smallpox pollen, shellac, baijian, baihe. If there is a need for medication, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of a professional physician to identify the symptoms, and not blindly self-medication.
