What causes left hydronephrosis

Left hydronephrosis may be caused by stenosis of the renal pelvic-ureteral junction, urinary tract obstruction, and segmental dysfunction of the ureter.
1. Pelvic-ureteral junction stenosis: when the pelvic-ureteral junction produces incomplete obstruction or secondary distortion, it hinders the transmission of urine, and thus urine accumulates in the kidney, which can form left hydronephrosis.
2. Urinary tract obstruction: such as prostatic hyperplasia, bladder neck contracture, neurogenic bladder, urethral stenosis, tumors, stones and even encapsulation, etc., which can also cause difficulty in emptying the upper urinary tract, and thus left hydronephrosis can be formed.
3. Segmental non-function of ureter: due to segmental muscular defects, underdevelopment or anatomical disorders at the renal pelvic-ureteral junction or the upper segment of ureter, it affects the normal peristaltic movement of a certain segment of ureter, resulting in dynamic obstruction. When the lesion occurs at the entrance to the urinary bladder, a congenital megaureter is formed, resulting in dilated kidneys and ureters as well as left hydronephrosis.
Patients with left hydronephrosis may also be caused by other reasons, and it is recommended that patients go to the hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment to avoid delays.
