What’s that sound of something wiggling in your ear?

The sound of something shaking in the ear may be related to the movement of small pieces of cerumen; it may also be tinnitus, which is related to secretory otitis media or cholesteatoma of the external auditory canal.
1. Cerumen: when there is dry and dislodged small piece of cerumen in the ear moving in the external auditory canal or near the tympanic membrane, the tympanic membrane vibrates, and the sound of something shaking can be heard, and the sound can disappear after the cerumen falls out of the external auditory canal on its own or is taken out in time.
2. Secretory otitis media: the etiology can be related to the dysfunction of the Eustachian tube, localized infection of the middle ear, or allergic reactions.
When the Eustachian tube is dysfunctional, the original gas in the middle ear is absorbed, negative pressure is formed in the cavity, the veins of the middle ear mucosa are dilated and stagnant, as well as the permeability of blood vessels is increased, and there is leakage of fluid in the tympanic cavity, and the sound of gas passing through the water can be heard in the ear when the head is moving or when the head is yawning.
3. Cholesteatoma of the external auditory canal: its appearance may be related to the long-term stimulation of the skin of the external auditory canal, etc. When the cholesteatoma is large, it can cause blockage in the ear, hearing loss and tinnitus.
When there is a strange sound in the ear, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time, after a clear diagnosis, follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
