Nocturnal sleep talking refers to unconscious speech, singing, crying, laughing or mumbling sounds during sleep, which often cannot be recalled after waking up. The cause of this disease is mostly unclear, and the mechanism occurs because neurons in the brain are generally inhibited during sleep, and if neurons in the speech and motor centers are excited at this time, then dream talking will occur, which is very common. This is a very common condition, with about half of all children experiencing sleep talking, and about 5% of adults experiencing nocturnal sleep talking, with some having a familial tendency. The significance of sleep talking is not clear. Some of the content of sleep talking may be psychologically related, and occasional sleep talking may occur in healthy people. Frequent sleep talking may be due to neurological developmental abnormalities in children, while in adults it may be due to psychosomatic disorders. Nighttime sleep talking may also be associated with some sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, rapid eye movement sleep behavioral abnormalities and sleep terrors.
