How to distinguish between benign and malignant lung nodules

The benign or malignant nature of lung nodules can be identified by nodule size, morphology and pathohistology.
1. Nodule size: if the diameter of lung nodule is less than 0.5cm and multiple, the possibility of benign nodule is higher; if the diameter is more than 0.8cm and single nodule, the risk of malignancy is higher.
2. Nodule morphology: malignant nodules often grow rapidly, may have burrs, lobulated, uneven density, central vacuoles or blood vessel growth, pleura is stretched, etc., while benign nodules grow slower, less burrs, and have relatively regular morphology.
3. Pathohistology: Pathohistology can be performed through lung nodule biopsy and resection, which is the gold standard for determining benign and malignant nodules in the lungs.
When lung nodules appear, it is recommended to carry out relevant examinations under the guidance of a doctor to clarify the nature and cause of the nodules, and follow the doctor’s instructions into the corresponding standardized treatment, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
