Where does supraglottic laryngeal cancer recur?

Recurrence of supraglottic laryngeal cancer is common in neck lymph nodes, supraglottic area and other locations. Most supraglottic laryngeal cancers in clinic are caused by recurrence of metastasis in the original site or metastasis in peripheral lymph nodes. The original site, i.e. supraglottic laryngeal cancer, is mainly due to the fact that the surgery did not remove the tumor tissues completely, and the tissues continue to grow after the surgery; peripheral lymph nodes are the cervical and clavicular lymph nodes, where the cancer cells metastasize with the lymphatic system, which finally leads to recurrence. Recurrence of supraglottic laryngeal cancer requires targeted treatment according to the location and condition of recurrence. Surgical resection is mostly recommended for early stage patients, while radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other comprehensive treatments are required for multiple sites and recurrences.
