The strong echogenic point of the fetal left ventricle is an ultrasound image display and not a diagnosis of a cardiac malformation or abnormality. It is often seen on ultrasound screening of the heart and occurs in about 2.1%-5% of midterm pregnancies. Intracardiac strong echogenic spots in the left heart are not usually confused with other cardiac conditions, and rarely may sometimes resemble an initial tumor of ventricular origin. The difference is that the tumor is always attached to the septum or ventricular wall on the echocardiogram, and on follow-up fetal ultrasound the tumor will gradually increase in size while the strong echogenic spot will gradually decrease in size or disappear.
