Patients taking isotretinoin may experience vision loss because isotretinoin can cause adverse reactions such as conjunctivitis, corneal clouding, and visual disturbances.
Isotretinoin is a dermatologic medication used for acne and other skin conditions. The drug is taken orally for severe refractory nodular acne that has failed other medications, especially cystic acne and acne vulgaris. Adverse effects of the drug include headache, dizziness, depression, benign increased brain pressure, conjunctivitis, corneal clouding, visual disturbances, and optic papillary edema.
So patients who experience adverse reactions after taking isotretinoin may experience vision loss. The drug also has adverse reactions such as hair thinning, softening of nails, osteoporosis, and muscle weakness. In addition to this, the drug can cause spontaneous abortion and abnormal fetal development when taken by women during pregnancy, so pregnant women are prohibited from using the drug.
Patients are advised to use isotretinoin as prescribed by the doctor and not to use it without authorization to avoid causing adverse reactions.
