Symptoms and causes of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis

Symptoms of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis include generalized weakness, enlarged thyroid gland, and abnormal thyroid function. The causes of the disease are genetic factors, environmental factors and autoimmune factors. 1.Symptoms: (1) Generalized weakness: generalized weakness is the most common symptom, usually accompanied by pharyngeal discomfort, and may be accompanied by discomfort in the thyroid area or a feeling of pressure in the neck. (2) Enlargement of the thyroid gland: the thyroid gland is mostly bilaterally diffusely and moderately enlarged, up to two to four times of normal, usually symmetrical, or unilaterally enlarged. (3) Abnormal thyroid function: some patients show mild hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. 2. Etiology: (1) Genetic factors: defective immune guardianship caused by genetic factors causes antigen-antibody complexes or antibodies to act on thyroid cells, thus activating antibody and complement-mediated cytotoxicity, leading to destruction of the thyroid gland. (2) Environmental factors: High iodine intake is an important factor. High iodine inhibits the organicization of iodine and the formation of excess free radicals, causing destruction of the thyroid gland. Secondly, smoking, stress, and emotions may be triggering factors. (3) Autoimmune factors: the imbalance between humoral immunity and cellular immunity in the course of the disease, if excitatory antibodies are dominant, hyperthyroidism will appear. If inhibitory antibodies are dominant, hypothyroidism will be manifested. Patients with the above symptoms should go to the hospital for diagnosis and standardized treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
