Snoring is caused by the vibration of the soft palate due to the impact of the airflow on the open mouth when breathing due to poor nasal ventilation during sleep, which mostly refers to simple snoring and obstructive sleep apnea hypoventilation syndrome. Common causes include adenoid hypertrophy, deviated nasal septum, enlarged nasal turbinates, etc. Different causes and different treatments. 1. Adenoid hypertrophy: Adenoid hypertrophy is mostly seen in children under 10 years old, and it is mostly physiological hypertrophy. The enlarged adenoids can block the posterior nostrils, leading to narrowing of the airway during sleep, which in turn leads to snoring. If the snoring is mild and there is no open-mouth breathing, no treatment is needed; if the snoring is accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, surgical excision of the adenoids is an option. 2. Deviated nasal septum: this disease can cause poor nasal ventilation and open-mouth breathing, which will lead to snoring symptoms. After checking and making clear diagnosis, you should undergo deviated nasal septum correction surgery to correct the structural abnormality of the nasal cavity, and restore the normal ventilation of the nasal cavity to relieve the cause of open-mouth breathing. 3. Nasal turbinate hypertrophy: Nasal turbinate hypertrophy is due to long-term inflammatory stimulation of the nasal mucosa, tissue congestion and edema, hyperplasia and thickening or polypoid changes caused by a disease, the patient can appear persistent nasal obstruction, and then snoring symptoms, treatment can be through the hydroxymetholone and other drugs to reduce the local congestion and edema, but also through surgical resection of part of the hypertrophied turbinate to restore ventilation. In addition to the above factors, enlarged tonsils, nasal polyps, sinusitis and other diseases may also cause snoring. If snoring is serious and affects breathing, it is recommended to seek medical treatment as soon as possible and go to regular hospitals to find out the causes so as not to delay the condition.
