Most vaginal atrophy is caused by a decrease in estrogen levels, but it can also be caused by endocrine disorders, inflammatory stimulation or injury. To make a definite diagnosis, you can go to a regular hospital to have relevant tests, such as the sex hormone test. Normal physiological atrophy is often seen in post-menopausal women, and can be improved by local supplementation with estrogen gel or oral estrogen, or by applying adult lubricants during intercourse to improve the dryness and discomfort caused by vaginal dryness. Don’t be too nervous, as most of them are treatable. However, it is important to make sure that the patient does not have estrogen-dependent neoplastic disease before taking estrogen to avoid aggravating the condition.
