Tooth extraction for orthodontic treatment usually involves the extraction of 1-8 teeth, depending on the severity of the malocclusion. If the upper and lower jaw teeth are mildly crowded, only a single lower front tooth needs to be extracted to relieve the crowding and achieve the orthodontic goal. If the occlusal relationship is basically normal, four wisdom teeth can be selected for extraction to prevent the wisdom teeth from squeezing the anterior teeth after the orthodontic treatment is completed and affecting the orthodontic effect. If the measurement data from surface tomography and cephalometric radiographs show a large degree of crowding in the upper and lower dentition and the presence of significant anterior protrusion, wisdom teeth, upper and lower jaw first or second premolar teeth need to be extracted to obtain sufficient orthodontic clearance to align the teeth and achieve a stable occlusal relationship.
