The urethral dilatation procedure includes preoperative preparation, probe insertion into the urethra, delivery into the bulbourethra, tip across the membranous urethra, and tip into the bladder.
1 Preoperative preparation: the operator stands on the right side of the patient, local disinfection, toweling, may inject lidocaine into the urethra for anesthesia.
2. Probe insertion into the urethra: hold the probe handle with the thumb, indicator and middle finger of the right hand, the probe is coated with sterile lubricant, hold the patient’s penis with the left hand, straighten it upward, fix the external urethral opening with the thumb and middle finger apart, and insert the probe into the urethral opening slowly.
3. The probe is fed into the bulbous urethra: after inserting the probe into the urethra, it is slowly slid forward, and then the probe is made to maintain a certain angle with the patient’s abdominal wall, and then the probe is continued to be inserted inward, and the tip of the probe is slid into the bulbous urethra.
4. The tip of the probe crosses the membrane urethra: the operator releases the left hand, makes the penis tension-free traction, gently pushes the probe back to the urethra, and at the same time pushes the probe and presses downward, so that the tip crosses the urethral membrane, and enters the prostatic urethra.
5. The tip of the probe enters the bladder: continue to push the probe forward, the tip of the probe has entered the bladder, and a breakthrough sensation can be felt, proving that the probe has entered the bladder, completing the entire urethral dilatation operation.
The operation process should be gentle and not violent, and blind urethral dilatation is not recommended, as it is likely to aggravate local trauma and inflammation, further aggravate the stenosis, and even cause other complications and delay reasonable treatment.
If urethral dilatation is needed, please consult the hospital in time and choose the appropriate treatment plan under the guidance of the doctor to avoid adverse consequences.
