Colposcopy takes about 5-15 minutes. In case of abnormal cervical cancer screening results, such as high risk HPV infection or abnormal cytology, further colposcopy should be done. If there is no abnormality in colposcopy, no biopsy is needed and the examination takes about 5 minutes. If there is abnormality in the cervix during colposcopy, a cervical biopsy is needed to further clarify the diagnosis, which takes about 15 minutes. Colposcopy is a definitive diagnosis of cervical disease. The examination is performed by magnifying the cervix through the colposcope. If the examination is simply done, intercourse can only be done after 3 days. If a biopsy is taken during the examination, intercourse should be done after 2 weeks so as not to affect the recovery of the wound. After the examination, the vulva area should be kept dry and clean and anti-inflammatory drugs should be taken to prevent infection.
