There are several reasons for children’s inaccurate articulation: 1) Inaccurate articulation may be caused by hearing loss, which may be congenital or acquired; if the child is over 5 years old, he/she can undergo electroacoustic audiometry or acoustic impedance examination; if the child is younger than 5 years old, he/she can undergo brainstem evoked potential or otoacoustic emission examination to determine the child’s hearing; 2) Inaccurate articulation may also be caused by short tongue tie. When the tongue tie is too short, the child’s tongue can’t stick out of the mouth, and the tongue can’t be upturned, which leads to the restriction of the pronunciation of the alveolar ridge.3. Pronunciation also needs the joint participation of the laryngeal muscles, nerves, and vocal cords, and if there are laryngeal spasms or insufficient muscle strength, or if there is paralysis of the superior laryngeal nerve or the laryngeal reentrant nerve, which can also lead to hoarseness and inaccuracy of the pronunciation, and if it’s serious, we can do an electronic laryngoscopy examination.
