How to treat conjunctivitis in babies

Conjunctivitis, whether in newborns or in adolescents or adults, is a very common inflammatory disease of the eye. Currently, the main treatment modalities for conjunctivitis are topical medications, oral medications and systemic IV medications. Depending on the cause of conjunctivitis, the treatment varies slightly. Especially in younger children, if a newborn baby is born, the condition is usually considered to be a bacterial infection or gonococcal infection, which requires targeted application of penicillin antibiotics, and because oral medication is difficult for newborns, eye drops can be used topically or systemically. If inflammation of the conjunctiva occurs after a cold and fever, it is generally considered a viral infection and should be treated with antiviral drugs such as acyclovir eye drops and ganciclovir ophthalmic gel, etc. If the condition is severe, systemic antiviral drugs such as ribavirin can also be administered. In conclusion, the treatment of conjunctivitis in babies requires different treatment modalities depending on the cause of the disease. There are local and systemic medications, and the indications and contraindications must be noted in the process of medication, as some drugs are not available for children.
