Three major complications of paraplegia

Common complications of paraplegia include respiratory symptoms, urinary symptoms and pressure sores.
1. Respiratory symptoms: paraplegic patients are more likely to suffer from dyspnea and pneumonia, which may cause fever, cough, sputum, and wet rales in the lungs.
2. Urinary system symptoms: due to long-term bed rest, patients are more likely to have urinary tract infections, which may cause frequent urination, urinary urgency, urinary pain and urinary difficulties.
3. Pressure sores: patients need to be bedridden for a long time, which may cause sensory, motor and nutritional disorders of the limbs, coupled with the inability to turn over on a regular basis, which may lead to pressure on the skin and induce pressure sores.
Complications of paraplegia greatly affect the quality and duration of survival. It is recommended that family members strengthen the patient’s daily life care and actively prevent complications.
