What’s wrong with the pain on the sides of the buttocks?

Pain on both sides of the buttocks may be a physiological pain caused by excessive exercise, or it may be a manifestation of some diseases, such as muscle strain, osteoarthritis of the hip joints, lumbar disc herniation, pelvic disease, femoral head necrosis, and trauma.
1. Physiological pain: generally due to the accumulation of lactic acid in the hip muscles caused by excessive exercise of the lower limbs, which stimulates the local nerve endings and causes soreness and pain, which can be relieved after rest.
2. Muscle strain: long-term climbing stairs, mountaineering and other sports can cause bilateral muscle injury and strain of the hip, resulting in bilateral hip pain and other symptoms.
3. Osteoarthritis of hip joint: due to the degeneration and proliferation of hip joint cartilage in the elderly, the proliferated bone can stimulate the local occurrence of aseptic inflammation, and make the bilateral hip pain near the hip joint.
4. Herniated lumbar intervertebral discs: after the protruding nucleus pulposus presses on the nerves in the spinal canal, it can lead to pain, numbness and other discomfort in the innervated areas of the hip bilaterally.
5. Pelvic diseases: Inflammation, tuberculosis, tumors and other lesions in the pelvic area can invade the hip muscles bilaterally and cause pain symptoms.
6. Femoral head necrosis: when ischemic necrosis occurs in both femoral heads, pain in both hips, hip pain, and limitation of activities can occur.
7. Trauma: external forces such as fall and impact can cause soft tissue injury or fracture in the hip, resulting in pain on both sides of the buttocks.
There are other reasons that can cause pain on both sides of the buttocks. If the pain is not relieved after resting, you should consult a doctor in time, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and follow the doctor’s instruction to carry out targeted treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
