What to do about ingrown toenails

Ingrown toenail is a disease in which the lateral edge of the toenail, grows into the soft tissue of the nail groove causing localized pain, which can be treated by soaking, topical medication, systemic medication, incision and drainage, and removal of the nail. 1. Soaking: warm soapy water can be used for local softening to improve the symptoms. 2. Topical medication: apply povidone-iodine solution, ichthyol ointment and other medications locally. 3. Systemic medication: cephalosporin antibiotics, penicillin and other drugs can be selected for anti-infection treatment in the acute stage of inflammation. 4. Incision and drainage: If an abscess is formed, local incision and drainage can be made to drain the pus. 5. Nail extraction: if the symptoms are serious, the whole nail or part of the nail plate can be removed for treatment.
