What is “abortion man”

When it comes to miscarriage, people often think of it as a woman’s problem first. In fact, there are “miscarriage men” among the patients who visit the male department. This kind of men, because of computer radiation, smoking, or varicose veins of the spermatozoa caused DNA damage, and thus become a significant cause of recurrent fetal abortion or spontaneous miscarriage after the spouse is pregnant. The sperm of the “aborted man” meets the egg and still has the ability to enter the egg to fertilize it, this fertilization function belongs to the early effect of sperm; the role played in the process of female pregnancy belongs to the late effect of sperm. Sperm provide 50% of the genes for the embryo and act throughout the development of the embryo. If the DNA (genetic material) of the sperm is damaged, it can not affect its conception function, i.e. the sperm can unite with the egg and the woman can also get pregnant normally, but after pregnancy, the late effect of the sperm DNA becomes abnormal, resulting in repeated spontaneous abortions due to stagnation of the embryo development. The DNA fragmentation index (DFI) is commonly used as an indicator of sperm DNA damage. The DFI of good sperm should be <15%; 15%-25% represents fair sperm or mild sperm DNA damage; >30% is severe sperm DNA damage. Sperm DFI in “aborted men” is often >25%. If the female partner has repeated fetal abortion or spontaneous miscarriage and no abnormality is found after the relevant examination, the male partner needs to do further examination. If there is poor semen quality, the possibility of “miscarriage man” should be considered, and a sperm DNA test must be done to understand the DFI, because the man’s sperm is closely related to embryonic developmental arrest and spontaneous female miscarriage.
