Alternating left and right abdominal bloating may be caused by physiological reasons, such as swallowing a large amount of air; or pathologic causes, such as intestinal flatulence, enteritis, and so on.
1. Physiological causes: Swallowing large amounts of air accidentally when eating too fast or talking to people. These large amounts of air will exert pressure on the intestines and produce a feeling of bloating. In the process of expelling this air, it is necessary to travel through the entire intestinal tract, and naturally, the symptoms of alternating bloating in the left and right abdomen will occur.
2. Pathologic causes:
(1) Intestinal flatulence: due to intestinal dysfunction, the peristalsis of various intestinal segments is not uniform, and it is unable to push food downward normally, resulting in alternating abdominal distension between the right and left abdomen.
(2) Intestinal inflammation: Inflammation of the intestinal tract due to bacterial or viral infection, leading to edema of the intestinal wall and stimulation of the intestinal tract to prevent normal peristalsis, resulting in alternating bloating of the left and right abdomen.
The cause of alternating abdominal distension cannot be determined solely by combining the characteristics of medical history and other examination results, and it is recommended to clarify the cause of the disease under the guidance of a doctor and carry out treatment.
